In 2020 raised money for Mountbatten – the Island’s hospice.

The work Moutbatten does, especially their caring nurses who look after thousands of people a year who are at the end of their life means so much to many individuals.

We chose to raise money for the Mountbatten Hospice this year having lost a family member in July.

in memory of

Robin Thornton

Robin Thornton, a local tourism ambassador, Whitwell resident and history buff, sadly died at the Island’s hospice, aged 84, on the 23rd July 2020.

During the final couple of days of his life, Robin was looked after by the wonderful nurses at the hospice where he died after being admitted a day previous.

Many nurses came to Robin’s home to assess him before deciding what was best to do, as he wanted to spend as much time at home as possible.

Around 16 hours he was at the hospice, before passing away peacefully with 2 members of staff beside him.
